Level A

This summer in technology class, students will build on a variety of computer skills while being creative and having fun!  The students in this class will use Google Drive to make and share projects.   Within Google Drive, students will create using Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Drawings.   Google Drive is a great way to create and it allows all projects to easily be shared through email.  This summer, students will become story writers using a variety of wonderful story writing websites available for kids, such as storyboardthat.com and makebeliefscomix.com.  Students will learn basic computer programming skills as they create their own game moves using hourofcode.com.  We will discuss reliable and unreliable sites for research, as well as some ways to stay safe while using the Internet.  Throughout the summer, students will also have the opportunity to use the iPad and explore some fun and educational apps.

    • Google Docs – Writing a document and using the tool bar for things such as different fonts, italics, underline, copy, paste, spacing, word art, and inserting images.  Writing documents using Google Docs will also help improve students typing skills.
    • Google Slides – Create a presentation of choice using multiple slides.  Students will learn how to insert slides, insert text, insert images, add sound, make a design, and choose transitions.  Students will learn how to use reliable websites to research their project.
    • Google Sheets – Learn how to make a table by adding rows and columns to perform math functions.  Students will create their own tables to organize specific information.
    • Google Drawings – Use personal expression to design drawings, such as a comic strip, advertisement and poster.  Students will learn how to create shapes, lines, insert text, insert images, and use creativity to design drawings.
    • iPads – Practice navigating and typing using the touch screen, and explore different educational apps.
    • Story Writing – Use creativity to write and share stories and comics.
    • Computer Programming – Use hourofcode.com to learn basic computer programming skills to design parts of a game.

Level B

This summer in technology class, students will develop a variety of computer skills while being creative and having fun!  Students will begin by learning some basic computer rules and safety.  They will learn how to click and drag the mouse, and practice typing skills.  Students will be introduced to Google Drive, where they will each set up their own folder to view and share assignments with parents.  Google Drive is a great way to practice computer skills and it allows all projects to easily be shared by email.  Within Google Drive, students will practice using the tool bar and create projects using Google Docs, Google Drawings and Google Slides.  Students will also have the opportunity to become story writers using some wonderful story writing websites, such as scholasticstorystarters.com.  These sites are a great way for students to be creative and have fun while using their computer skills.  Students will use the iPad and explore some fun and educational apps.

 

  • Typing – Become familiar with the “home row” and where to place fingers correctly.  Students will practice typing skills using fun programs such as keyboard zoo and dance mat typing.
  • Google Docs – Use the mouse and keyboard to write a document.  Students will use the toolbar options to help them write a document,  such as changing fonts, underline, copy, paste, spacing and adding images.
  • Google Slides – Create a presentation using multiple slides, allowing each student to be creative with all of the different tools that Google Slides has to offer.
  • Google Drawings – Use the mouse to click and drag to create different shapes, lines, color and text.  Students will use the toolbar and their creativity to design drawings.
  • Internet Safety – Learn basic Internet safety rules and tips when using computers for the Internet.
  • iPads – Practice navigating and typing using the touch screen, and explore different educational apps.
  • Story Writing – Use creativity to write and share stories using sites such as Scholasticstorystarter.com.  Practice using the mouse and keyboard to write different stories.
