SADA Charity Preview Teaser

Hi Folks,

The 2012 SADA Charity Preview Teaser is up on YouTube. Here’s the link to the page where it originates:

When on that page, if you click on the add+ button, it will expand top show you different links for different social networks, links for embedding to your website, and links for adding to an e-mail and such.

PLEASE take advantage of this technology and the efforts put forth by SADA to get this out there and get this movie VIRAL! The multiplying factor of Facebook alone means this should be seen by thousands and thousands over the next few weeks. I would also suggest re-posting this right after Christmas/New Years to get people thinking about it again. Might want to make a note in your calendars?…. Use this for all it’s worth.

I wish EVERY Charity involved this year all the best with ticket sales for the 2012 event. Let’s stuff the OnCenter with folks & fun come February. Many Thanks to All!

Are you taking care of yourself?

Are you taking care of yourself? In order to support those around you time needs to be given to yourself. Here is is great list of tips…

Set aside time with your partner. Use email or voicemail to stay in touch.

Schedule one-on-one time with each child. Write the child’s name by a date on the calendar. Let the child pick the place and activity.

Master the art of the short escape. Visit a local attraction for an afternoon or a local resort for a weekend. Short escapes will help you unwind.

Nurture friendships. Make time to go to the movies, have meals, exercise, or take walks with friends.

Ask friends for help. Tell friends or family when you need help with child-care and errands.

Find another parent whom you can contact when you are worried and need encouragement.

Share child-care with another family. Pick times each week when you can help the family and when they can help you. You will each have someone to contact when you need a break.

Help others. If you spend one hour a month helping others, this will help you keep your problems in perspective. You will know that you are not alone.

Set aside a block of time to do special education tasks (i.e., making phone calls and filing documents). If you stick to a schedule, special education will not consume your life.

Simplify. Get rid of clutter. Your home will be more relaxing and peaceful.

Take the phone off the hook. When you need quiet time, turn your phone off for a few hours.

Take care of your health. Schedule and keep appointments with doctors. If you feel anxious or depressed, see a mental health professional.

College and Adult Services

The Fall has been a busy time of year for Adult Services. My name is Kelley Greene and as the Adult Services Consultant I have been working with a few clients in employment helping to gain and maintain jobs. Additionally Adult Services is seeing a rise in clients that are college students with learning disabilities trying to navigate their schools’ disability services. This has proved to be quite a challenge for some and the LDA is working to help these clients advocate for themselves while assuming responsibility for their successes while in school. I would encourage any college student, traditional or non who is having a hard time finding success in school to contact the LDA for assistance in establishing a working relationship with their respective disability services office and any services their school may provide.

As the Adult Services Consultant I am available to provide resource information on counselors, clinicians and other resources in our area. Please contact the office with any questions you may have. If you have strategies that have worked for you in the past and you think might help someone else, please feel free to share on our site!
